These are very important components of hoarding, and they all cause a kind of paralysis for hoarders who seem to be controlled by the clutter in their lives. To be overwhelmed is to be rendered powerless, especially by an excessive amount or profusion of something. Fear can manifest as a sense of lack, or a feeling that you can't get rid of something because you might need it in the future. Depression can make you less motivated, procrastinate, be indecisive or in the other direction can make you go out and buy something new to feel better about your life. Once you can get your possessions under control, these feelings will be greatly reduced and you will be able to maintain a more positive lifestyle.
